Vari-a-tease! opens this Saturday at The Newtown Theatre

Vari-a-tease! Bringing old school Variety back.

Inspired by the variety shows of old, Vari-a-tease! is bringing burlesque and vaudeville back to the theatre. The Newtown Theatre in fact.

Burlesque and variety has been enjoying a grand revival in recent years, with performers from all walks of life taking to the stage and embracing an art form that hasn't seen such popularity since the 1930's. Vari-a-tease! features some of the best performers Australia has to offer in burlesque, vaudeville, cabaret and magic - having sewn their performing oats on temporary stages all over Australia and internationally – these artists are ready to tread the boards just like their colleagues of old.

A rag tag bunch, the show features everything from the almost extinct vaudeville classic hat and cigar routines to pole dancers and burlesque girls bathing in milk and champagne right on stage.

FEATURING: Danica Lee (Miss Burlesque Sydney), Missy (Miss Pole Dance Australia and Australia Pole Dance Finalist), Kitty Van Horne (The 50’s housewife with the purring voice), Mr Gorksi (Vaudeville extraordinaire), Liam Power (Magician, entertainer, swan wrangler), Lauren La Rouge (the runaway burlesque train), PoppyT (burlesque baby taking Sydney by storm) with special interlude entertainment by M&M (our stagehands that a little more than determined to get their own 5 minutes of fame).

Vari-a-tease! is a part of the Sydney Fringe Festival and will run on 11, 16, 18, and 24 September at 10PM and 19 September at 5PM 2010 at The Newtown Theatre (Cnr King & Bray Streets, Newtown).

ROCKTAPUS! go naked!

Inspired by Sarina Del Fuego's performance at yesterday's media launch, ROCKTAPUS! are considering* incorporating a little burlesque into their show 'We Will ROCKTAPUS! You', with perhaps only the careful placing of a few air-guitars to cover their modesty. Intrigued? Come see our bits this Sunday 7.30 at NOTES, Newtown or 10pm next Sunday 19th. Hmm, a late show, mightn't even use the air-guitars.....

* please note that there's no actual promise of nudity, keeping in mind that some people will be eating during the show. Once you see some of us, you'll be grateful.
